Using an existing ISRC
When to reuse a recording's ISRC and when you need a new one.
Reuse an ISRC only when the recording has already been released and you're distributing the exact same master.
When to reuse it
- The recording was previously released with another distributor and you're bringing that catalog to UXEM.
- The recording is already on an earlier release of yours and you're publishing it again (for example, on a compilation).
In these cases, enter the original ISRC on the track. That keeps the recording's streaming history, playlist adds and stats attached to it.
When NOT to reuse it
Each of these is a new recording and needs a new ISRC:
- A remix.
- A live or acoustic version.
- A re-recording.
- A remaster made from a different master.
- An edit (radio edit, clean version).
Don't make one up
If you don't have the recording's real ISRC, leave it blank. UXEM will assign a new one during distribution. A correct new code is better than a made-up or wrong one.
When you can enter it
Only while the release is in Draft. After that, the field is locked.
