Set up your first artist
What an artist is in UXEM, how to create its profile, which fields are required, how to link its streaming profiles, and what you can do afterwards.
In UXEM you always release "under" an artist. The artist is a profile separate from your account: every release and every track credit is attached to it. You can have several artists in the same account.
What an artist is in UXEM
An artist represents the project you go public as: you as a solo act, your band, a group or a collective.
"Connecting" an artist means creating that profile and, if you want, adding links to its existing profiles on the platforms. It's not a login to Spotify or any other store: they're links that help route your releases to the right profile.
Creating your artist
- Open Artists in the menu and click Create.
- Fill in at least the basic details (see below).
- Save. You'll see confirmation that the artist was created and return to the list.
You can also create an artist on the fly, with the Create New Artist button, while adding artists to a release or a track.
If you don't see the option to create artists in your account, contact us.
Basic details
- Artist Name — required. The professional or band name, exactly as you want it to appear in stores.
- Artist Type — required. Individual Artist, Band, Group, Collective or Other.
- First Name and Last Name — required only if the type is Individual Artist: the person's full legal name.
- Stage Name — an alternative name, optional.
- Biography — optional.
Choose the type carefully: it changes which fields are asked for next.
If the artist is a band or group
When the type is not Individual Artist, the Group Members (Legal Names) section appears.
Add each member's legal first and last name. This is what UXEM uses for credits that require a legal name — composer, lyricist, producer — instead of the First Name and Last Name fields.
Linking its streaming and social profiles
In Streaming Platforms you can paste the URL of the artist's profile on Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, Deezer, Pandora, SoundCloud and Audiomack.
In Social Media go Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, X/Twitter, TikTok and your store link.
They're optional, but worth filling in: they help associate your releases with the right profile and feed your artist website.
Optional details
The remaining sections are not required and you can complete them whenever you want:
- Professional Information — IPI number, ISNI number, PRO affiliation, primary genre and instrument, career start year.
- Roles & Skills — whether the artist is a performer, songwriter or producer.
- Personal Information — date of birth and profile image (square).
- Contact Information and Management & Representation — contact and manager details.
- Legal Information — legal name for contracts, tax ID and business name.
After creating it
You can now:
- Select this artist when you create a release.
- Add it to tracks with its roles (see Artist roles and collaborators).
- If the artist qualifies as a primary artist, manage its website from the corresponding tab.
