How to Add Cover Art
Technical and content requirements for your cover image, and what happens if you need to change it after creating the release.
Where Do You Upload the Cover Art?
In Quick Creation, the cover art is uploaded in Step 2 of the wizard. In advanced mode, it's uploaded in Step 1 (Basic Information), alongside the release's general details.
Technical Requirements
- Square format, exact 1:1 ratio.
- Resolution: minimum 3000×3000 px, maximum 5000×5000 px.
- File format: JPG or PNG.
- Maximum size: 36,000 KB (about 35 MB).
Although the file picker also lets you choose a WEBP image, when the release is saved the system only accepts JPG or PNG — if you upload a WEBP file, validation will fail. Use JPG or PNG from the start to avoid the extra step of converting it.
What to Avoid in Your Cover Design
Regardless of size and format, your cover art must follow these content guidelines:
- No borders, frames, pixelation, or noticeable blur.
- No store or platform logos (Spotify, Apple, etc.).
- No URLs, phone numbers, email addresses, or QR codes.
- No pricing, "Available Now," or promotional messages.
- No illegal, hateful, or sexually explicit content.
- Text limited to the title and artist (avoid "feat." if the target store doesn't allow it).
- You must own the rights to use the image — either your own or properly licensed.
Cover art that doesn't follow these guidelines can be rejected during review, even if it technically meets the size and format requirements.
After Uploading: Preview and Adjustment
Once the image is uploaded, the platform shows you a square preview so you can confirm it looks right before continuing. Avoid placing important elements (text, faces) too close to the edge, since thumbnails on streaming platforms crop the image.
Changing the Cover Art After Creating the Release
You can freely replace or remove the cover art while the release is in draft, in review, or requires changes.
Once the release moves into quality control, distribution, or later stages, the field becomes locked and you can no longer change it yourself — in that case, contact support if you need the cover art updated.
