What the link does on release day
The automatic switch from pre-save to smartlink at the publication moment.
"Release day" is really an exact moment: the combination of the release's date + time + timezone (see Release time and timezone).
Before that moment
The page works in pre-save mode. The buttons say "Pre-Save" / "Save" and reserve the release on the listener's platform.
At that moment
The same URL switches on its own to smartlink mode. The buttons change to "Listen" and take you straight to the song on each platform.
You don't have to do anything
There's no link to change, nothing to edit and no need to re-share it. The switch is automatic based on the configured moment.
If you changed the time or timezone while the release was still editable, that change also moved the moment the link switches.
Apple Music
Apple Music uses its own "pre-add" flow. The other platforms use direct links.
