Duplicates and repeated versions
Why duplicate releases or recordings appear, how to spot them, and what to do.
A duplicate is the same release — or the same recording — present twice in the stores.
Why it happens
- Uncoordinated migration: the release is still active at the previous distributor and is also delivered from UXEM.
- Double submission: the same release created and submitted twice in UXEM.
- ISRC conflict: an ISRC reused for a different recording, or a new ISRC for a recording that already existed.
How to spot them
- In the catalog, search by title and by UPC and check whether there are two equivalent releases.
- In the store, check whether the song appears twice under the same artist.
What to do
- Don't create a new release "to fix" one that's already wrong: it usually makes the duplicate worse.
- Contact us with both releases (or both store links). We'll help you consolidate: usually one is taken down and the one with the streaming history is kept.
Repeated versions that are NOT duplicates
A deluxe edition, a clean version or a remix are not duplicates: they carry their own UPC and, if they're different recordings, their own ISRC. See Versions, remixes and special editions.
