Take down a release
How to remove a release from all platforms, the requirements it must meet, what happens next, and how to restore it later.
Taking down a release means removing it from every store and platform where it's distributed. It stops being available for streaming and download, but the release isn't deleted: it stays in your account with its full history and can be restored later.
This guide covers the requirements, the steps, and what to expect after a takedown.
When you can take it down
The option only appears when the release meets both of these conditions:
- It's in In Distribution status.
- It has at least one active platform.
If the release is still a draft, under review, or requires changes, there's nothing to remove: just don't submit it, or edit it instead.
The release owner or the UXEM team can perform a takedown.
How to take it down
- Go to Releases and open the release you want to remove.
- At the top of the page, click the red Take Down Release button.
- In the confirmation dialog, enter the Reason for Taking Down. It's required and accepts up to 500 characters.
- Confirm. The release moves to Taken Down status and all its platforms are marked as taken down.
You'll see a confirmation message, and the release page will show a red banner indicating it's taken down along with the recorded reason.
What happens next
- The release status changes to Taken Down, and it's removed from all platforms at once.
- Each store processes the removal over the following days; the exact time depends on each platform.
- The release no longer has selected platforms and is not available for distribution.
- While taken down, it generates no new streams or royalties. Royalties already accrued are not lost.
- The action is recorded in the release history (date, user, and reason).
Restoring a taken-down release
A takedown is reversible.
- Open the taken-down release.
- Click Restore Release.
- Select at least one platform to distribute to again. You can choose all of them or just some.
- Confirm.
The release returns to In Review and must be approved again before going live. It's not instant: it goes through the same checks as a new release.
Removing from a single platform only
From your account, a takedown always affects every platform. If you need to stop distribution on one specific store while keeping the rest, contact support so the team can handle it.
Frequently asked questions
Do I lose the release data? No. The release, its tracks, credits, and history are kept. Only the status and platforms change.
Can I reuse the same release date? When you restore, the release goes back to review as previously published material. Check with support if you need a specific date.
Can I take down and restore as many times as I want? Yes, as long as the release meets the requirements for each action.
