Beat leases and collaborations

How to document the agreement before distributing.

Updated 1 day ago

Beat leases

When you license an instrumental from a producer, read the license terms:

  • What uses it allows (streaming, sales, number of copies).
  • Whether it's exclusive or not. A non-exclusive license means others can use the same beat.
  • How the producer must be credited.

The producer usually keeps part of the composition. Reflect it in the credits and, if the recording royalty split isn't 100% yours, in an automatic split.

Collaborations

Before distributing, put in writing who contributes what — master and composition — and at what percentage.

In UXEM you reflect it with:

  • Each artist's roles on the release and the tracks.
  • An automatic split if the recording royalties aren't 100% yours.

A clear agreement before publishing avoids disputes later.
